A group of 22 workers from Las Vegas spent a decade pooling their money together and buying lottery tickets on regular basis. Their patience finally paid off when they matched five winning Powerball numbers to scoop an astonishing $2.000.000 windfall. The lucky syndicate from Las Vegas Paving Corp. correctly guessed the five main winning numbers 4, 7, 14, 46 and 59, but ironically missed the Power Ball 22 back on January 31st. They’ve been playing the lottery together for over a decade, and Tom Hampton was always the one in charge of collecting the money from his colleagues. He would usually buy four weeks’ worth of Powerball and Mega Millions tickets at the Primm Valley Lotto store in Nipton, so he wouldn’t have to go back to the store over and over again. His dedication to the workplace syndicate eventually made them $2.000.000 richer, but Mr. Hampton wasn’t the first one to discover their incredible stroke of good luck.
“I woke up to a text from a co-worker. I thought it was a joke at first. But then I went to work and started telling everyone who didn’t already know!” recalled Mr. Hampton.
Members of the syndicate don’t intend to stop playing the lottery after their big victory. Hampton already collected the money for the next draw and he’ll keep making one-hour drive to their favourite store every month. Syndicate’s spokesperson Kris Ann Molitor described their win as a life-changer and said everyone already made a couple of fun plans for the future.
“I think for a lot of us, once we saw that money in our bank accounts, we were like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s real. It’s really happened.’ Some people are taking vacations, some are investing in their kids’ college funds,” said Molitor, and added she’ll use her portion of the prize to pay off her mortgage.
