Many people assume that private islands are rare, that they are sold once in a blue moon and only to the super rich. But while the latter part of that is true, these islands are far from rare. In fact, there are thousands of them all over the world, and at any given time hundreds of these are for sale.
For this short guide we consulted with a private island real estate firm to find the most expensive private islands on the market right now.
5. Cave Cay, Bahamas = $60 MillionCave Cay is located in the Bahamas and already features some of the essentials needed to turn this private island into a luxury resort, including a marina and dock, an airstrip, and a completed villa that sits on one of the island’s highest points.
There are many more buildings under construction as well, gradually turning this little piece of the Caribbean into a holiday hotspot.
4. Spectabilis Island, Bahamas = $62 MillionThis island offers complete privacy and luxury in the Caribbean. The beaches are as white as sugar and can rival any other island in this amazing part of the world. It’s also located in the Exuma Cays, which are known to be popular with celebrities seeing the height of luxury.
3. Apo Island, Philippines = $72 MillionThis is a mountainous island in a great location, but it has limited vegetation and the soil on the shoreline is not ideal for agriculture. It also needs work to bring clean water and electricity to the island, but this could be a great project for someone looking for their own island getaway.
2. Rangyai Island = $160 MillionThis is the largest island currently listed for sale in Thailand. It offers 110 acres of partially developed land and is just a short trek from Phuket, which has an airport and other amenities.
You’ll find gorgeous white beaches and clear blue seas surrounding the coast of Rangyai, and its ideal location means it should prove popular with investors and developers. It also means that any villas or mansions built on the coast are guaranteed a great view of the surrounding islands.
1. Patroklos, Greece = UnknownThis is one of the largest islands on this list and should also be one of the most expensive, but we couldn’t wrangle a price out of the sellers so it’s hard to say how much it’s really worth.
However, Greek islands are huge right now and this one comes with over 5,000 olive trees, nearly 300 acres of cultivable land, and clear, unpolluted waters. It’s a short hop from the Greek mainland and this, in addition to its potential for development and the fact that it has been untouched by industry, makes it a prime target for investors.
We don’t know how much it costs, but if we had the choice between this island and any of the others on this list, we’d be converting our millions to Euros and booking a flight to Greece.
