Most people who decided to play the lottery on a whim do it while making a quick stop at a local store or a gas station – but not millennials. One New Zealander in his early 20s recently collected an astounding $22.300.000 windfall after deciding to buy a ticket while scrolling through his Facebook feed. Follow in his footsteps and win an even more impressive windfall in the next Powerball Boost draw – a $750.000.000 jackpot awaits!
The anonymous man correctly matched the numbers 4, 12, 18, 27, 33 and 35 with the Power Ball 8 in New Zealand’s version of the popular game on August 15th. He found out the $22.300.000 prize was up for grabs while scrolling through Facebook and decided to give it a try. The Central Otago resident checked the ticket while hanging out with one of his friends, and couldn’t believe what he was seeing is real.
“I watched the numbers circle off on my ticket. After the first couple I thought that’s pretty lucky. Then I saw all six numbers circled and lined up in a row and didn’t really know what to think – then the Power Ball came as well,” recalled the lucky millennial.
The young man couldn’t wait to share the news with his parents, but they thought it’s just a prank. His dad finally figured out his son is being serious after finding an article online about the $22.300.000 being sold in their area. The millennial winner got in touch with the lottery officials shortly after that and he’s already making plans for the future.
“I want to buy a house with some land, maybe a boat. The big thing for me is making sure I really set myself up for the future – this prize is an unbelievable opportunity and I am going to make the most it,” said the anonymous winner.
