Hoosier Lotto Introduction

The Hoosier Lottery is the official lottery of the US state of Indiana, taking its name from Indiana’s nickname. This lottery was first drawn back in 1989 (following a law that was enacted a year earlier) and has since grown into one of the country’s biggest regional lotteries, with jackpots in the tens of millions and no shortage of eager players awaiting every single draw.

Every Hoosier Lotto helps to give a little something back to communities across the state, with millions donated to construction, as well as to pensions for those working in the public sector.

How to Play Hoosier Lotto

It costs $2 to play the Hoosier Lotto, and tickets consist of 6 numbers from 1 to 46. The state lottery organisation that controls the Hoosier Lotto also offers a number of other games, providing state residents with access to games like Cash4Life, Mega Millions and Powerball, while also offering unique games like Poker Lotto, Quick Draw, and several daily games.

The Hoosier Lotto is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday, with draws taking place at the lottery HQ in the city of Indianapolis.

Hoosier Lotto Jackpots and Records

The format of the Hoosier Lotto jackpot is a little different to other regional lotteries. It has a minimum jackpot of $1 million and it rolls-over if it is not won, but the way it rolls-over is unique as it increases by a set amount of $500,000 for every 2 draws without a winner.

This still leads to sizeable jackpots though and the largest ever jackpot on the Hoosier Lotto was $54.5 million, an amount that was claimed by a single ticket holder back in November 2007. The jackpot had rolled over for over a year to reach this record amount, breaking a previous record of $42 million that had stood since 1999.

Hoosier Lotto Odds

The Hoosier Lotto has relatively low odds when compared to other lotteries, which is surprising when you consider that it once rolled over for more a year. The odds of a single ticket winning the grand prize are 1 in 9,366,819 and the odds of any ticket winning the smallest prize (which returns a free ticket) are 1 in 6.8.
